Who you're contracting with

Quotes and scope

Every quote is individual, given in writing, and fixed for the work it describes. It stays open for 30 days. If the work changes once it's underway, I'll tell you the cost of the change and wait for you to agree before doing it. You will not receive an invoice for something you didn't approve.

Payment

Project work: 50% before starting, 50% on going live. Ongoing work: monthly in advance. Invoices are payable within 14 days. Late payment may attract interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, though I would always rather ring you than invoke it.

Notice and cancellation

Ongoing work runs for an initial three months, then continues month to month with 30 days' written notice from either side. There is no exit fee. If you cancel a project once it's started, you pay for work done to that point and nothing more.

What you own

On final payment, you own the website, its content, and the design as delivered. Your domain is registered in your name from the outset and is yours regardless. Hosting and analytics accounts are set up in your name. Where the work uses open-source software or third-party licences, those keep their own terms.

I may describe the work publicly and link to it, unless you'd rather I didn't. Say so and I won't.

What I need from you

Content, access and approvals within a reasonable time. Most delays in this kind of work come from waiting on the client side, and if things stall for more than 30 days I may need to reschedule around other commitments.

You're responsible for the accuracy and legality of the content you give me, and for having the right to use any images or text you supply.

What I don't promise

I don't guarantee search rankings, traffic levels, enquiry volumes or sales. Nobody can, and anyone who does is either mistaken or selling you something. What I guarantee is the work described in the quote, done to a professional standard, when I said it would be.

Third-party services — hosting providers, Google, payment processors — occasionally fail. I'll deal with it as fast as I can, but I can't be liable for their outages.

Liability

My liability for any claim is limited to the fees you've paid me for the work in question. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, because the law does not permit that.

Confidentiality

Anything I learn about your business in the course of the work stays confidential, during the engagement and after it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Last updated: August 2026. These terms are superseded by any signed contract for a specific engagement.
