Accessibility statement

What I'm aiming for

This website aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That's the standard UK public sector bodies are legally held to, and it's a reasonable bar for everyone else.

What that means in practice

• Text and background colours meet contrast requirements, so the site is readable in poor light and with reduced vision
• Every page works with a keyboard alone — no mouse required
• Headings are structured properly, so screen readers can navigate the page
• Text resizes up to 200% without the layout breaking or content disappearing
• Form fields have real labels, and errors are described in words rather than colour alone
• Nothing important is conveyed by colour alone
• No content flashes, moves unexpectedly, or animates in a way that could cause problems
• Content does not depend on JavaScript to become visible

That last one deserves a mention. A common failure is text that starts invisible and is only revealed by an animation — when the animation doesn't fire, the content is simply gone, and nobody notices because it looks like an empty space rather than an error. Nothing on this site is built that way.

Where it currently falls short

Being straight about this is more useful than claiming perfection:

• This site is new and has not yet been through a full independent audit. My own testing has covered keyboard navigation, contrast and screen reader structure, but that isn't the same as a professional review.
• It has not yet been tested with every combination of assistive technology and browser.
• Some pages are still being written, and content added later may not have had the same checks.

This statement will be updated as those gaps close, rather than quietly left as it is.
