Privacy policy

What I collect, why, and what you can do about it. Written to be read rather than to be impenetrable.

Who is responsible for your data

STR Lines Limited, trading as STRJ Digital Consultancy, is the data controller. Registered in England and Wales, company number 10457009. Registered office: 228 Old Park Road, Wednesbury, WS10 9LF.

Contact: hello@strj.co.uk or 07595 333762.

The short version

  • I collect what you send me through a form on this site, and nothing else about you
  • I use it to reply to you and, if you become a client, to do the work
  • I do not sell it, rent it, or share it for anyone else's marketing
  • I will not add you to a mailing list because you filled in an enquiry form
  • You can ask me to delete it, and I will

What I collect

When you contact me: your name, business name, email address, phone number, website address, and whatever you write in the message. All of it is optional except your name, your email and the message itself.

When you visit the site: standard server logs kept by the hosting provider, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These are used for security and for keeping the site running, and are deleted on the hosting provider's normal schedule.

If you become a client: the information needed to do the work and to invoice you — contact details, billing details, and access to whatever systems the work requires.

Why I'm allowed to hold it

Under UK GDPR, the lawful bases are:

  • Legitimate interests — replying to an enquiry you sent me. You asked me a question; answering it is the obvious use.
  • Contract — doing work you've engaged me for, and getting paid for it.
  • Legal obligation — keeping financial records for the period HMRC requires.

How long I keep it

Enquiries that don't turn into work: 12 months, then deleted. Client records: for the duration of the work and six years afterwards, because that's what tax and accounting rules require.

Who else sees it

Only the suppliers needed to run the business — the website host, the email provider, and accounting software. Each processes data on my instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes. I do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and I do not share it for third-party marketing.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you what I hold, correct it, delete it, restrict what I do with it, send it to you in a portable format, or object to my holding it at all. Email hello@strj.co.uk and I'll respond within one month, usually much sooner. There's no charge.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
